0:00 What does the FDNY pension calculator do?

This is the free FDNY pension calculator for firefighters and fire officers. It takes about two minutes, and you don’t need to give an email to see your number.

0:11 Which membership date do I enter?

Start with your membership date from your pension fund record, not your academy graduation. It sets your tier. EMTs and paramedics are in a different plan, so this one is for the fire side.

0:24 What is my final average salary?

Then your final average salary, or your best estimate. For Tier 3, it’s the average of your highest three years in a row, with overtime and longevity included.

0:37 Which papers-in month do I enter?

Next, the month you’re thinking of putting your papers in. For Tier 3, the yearly inflation raise phases in over the three years before your 23-year mark.

0:47 How much will my pension be?

Your estimated yearly pension appears, with the monthly figure. It’s an estimate. Your final number comes from the pension fund.

0:56 What is Step 3, my pension plan?

Step 3 is your pension plan: your pension at 20 years and at 23, side by side. Leave your email, and it opens on your own figures.

1:08 What is Step 4, my retirement plan (optional)?

Step 4 is optional. Finish five short sentences about your own retirement, and each one is written into your printout. Or skip straight to Step 5.

1:20 Why do my age and rank matter in Step 5?

In Step 5, your age turns this into your Pension Printout. Then your rank at retirement. From 25 years, a share of your rank’s top pay is added to the salary your pension is figured on.

1:37 How do I print or save my Pension Printout?

Press Get my Pension Printout. Print it or save it as a PDF, so you can put it in front of someone. The printout lays out your pension, the $12,000 a year the Variable Supplements Fund adds, and what your spouse would receive under each survivor option.

1:55 How do I get my free pension guide?

Want a pension guide built on these numbers? Type your email and tap ‘Send me my guide and video.’ Within one business day, you get a personal pension guide and a short video. Or book the free 15-minute call. Already gave your email in Step 3? Then Step 5 won’t ask again. It just offers the free 15-minute call.
