0:00 What does the NYPD pension calculator do?

This is the free NYPD pension calculator. It takes about two minutes, and you don’t need to give an email to see your number.

0:09 Which start month do I enter?

Start with the month you came on. That sets your tier, and if you came on between July 2000 and June 2009, it also picks up the new salary law signed this September.

0:22 Should I try 20 or 25 years of service?

Next, the years of service you’ll have on the day you leave. Twenty and twenty-five give you very different numbers, so try both.

0:31 Which pay is my pension based on?

Put in your last twelve months of pensionable pay, and your best three calendar years in a row. The calculator uses whichever the law says applies to you.

0:43 How much will my pension be?

That’s your estimated pension. It’s an estimate. Your final number comes from the Police Pension Fund.

0:51 How do I get my Pension Printout?

Step 3 is your Pension Printout. One more answer, your age, turns your number into a printout you can take to your Fund appointment. Rank and filing status are optional, and they sharpen it. Then press Get my Pension Printout.

1:09 What is the optional retirement plan step?

Step 4 is optional. Finish five short sentences about your own retirement, and each one is written into your printout. Or skip straight to Step 5.

1:21 What are the five decisions a plan covers?

Below them, the page lists the five decisions a plan also covers: your Annuity Savings Fund, your 457, your union annuity, your banked VSF and your pension option.

1:35 How do I get my free pension guide?

Step 5 is your guide. Your printout is there to read, save or print. Type your email and tap Send me my guide and video, and within one business day Eslyn Hernandez emails you a personal pension guide and a short video built on these numbers. Or pick a time for the free 15-minute call.

1:54 Can I send it to my spouse?

You can send it to someone, like your spouse. And if you add your email, it opens three more sections.

2:01 Who is Sirmium Capital?

Sirmium Capital LLC is a New York state-registered investment adviser and is not registered with the SEC. Registration does not imply a certain level of skill or training.

This walkthrough uses sample numbers, not anyone’s real figures. The calculator gives hypothetical illustrations for education only. It is not investment, tax or legal advice, and your final pension comes from the Police Pension Fund.
